FOR YOUR FAMILY

Protect the life
you share.

From an unexpected illness to a gap in income,
prepare for the moments when your family needs support.

LIVING BENEFITS

Focus on getting better.
Plan for life to keep going.

The mortgage, groceries, and your child’s everyday needs do not pause when you need time away from work.

What are living benefits?

Access part of your life insurance death benefit while you are alive.

Some policies allow this when you meet the requirements for a qualifying illness or condition. Depending on the contract, the money may be used for everyday expenses as well as care.

THREE THINGS TO CHECK

Start with the details of your policy.

01

Is it included?

The words “term” or “permanent” do not tell you which living benefits are included. Check your actual contract.

Your existing benefits
02

When could I qualify?

Review covered conditions, documentation, and eligibility requirements. A diagnosis does not automatically mean a benefit will be paid.

03

What remains for my family?

Understand the amount available, any discounts or fees, and the effect on the remaining death benefit.

The costs and trade-offs
Keep in mind

Benefits and eligibility vary by insurer and policy. Discounts or fees may apply to an accelerated benefit, and the remaining death benefit is reduced. Living benefits do not replace health insurance.

I have life insurance.
Is it enough for my family?

The policy name is only a starting point. What matters is how it supports your family, for how long, and at a cost you can maintain.

01

Your ongoing expenses

Look at housing, children’s needs, and the bills that would continue if income changed.

02

Your current protection

Review coverage through work and personal policies, including their amounts, terms, and conditions.

03

What may need attention

Consider your family’s changing needs, your spouse’s situation, and premiums that fit your budget.

QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE

You are not the only one wondering.

My husband has term life insurance. When should we consider permanent coverage?

There is no single age or deadline that makes switching right for everyone. Start with how long your family needs coverage and what premiums you can comfortably maintain. If the existing policy has a conversion option, check its deadline and terms. Review the benefits you would keep or lose and the costs of a change before making a decision.

Can life insurance help while I am still alive?

Some policies let you receive part of the death benefit early if you meet the requirements for a qualifying illness or condition. These are often called living benefits. A diagnosis alone does not guarantee payment. Eligibility and amounts depend on the policy, and using the benefit reduces what remains for your beneficiaries. We can review those details together.

I had surgery for stage 0 breast cancer. Can I still get life insurance?

Please do not rule yourself out just because you have had surgery. At the same time, “stage 0” alone is not enough to predict approval. An insurer will consider your treatment, time since treatment, current health, and its underwriting guidelines. I can help you understand what needs to be reviewed. Please do not send medical records through the website inquiry form.
